IMPHAL, October 8: The poor of the state can afford to have key-hole surgeries and other expensive treatments for kidney patiets at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science, JNIMS said ChiLow price ef Minister O Ibobi Singh while opening the two day long 16th Annual Conference Association of Surgeon of India, 2011 at the conference hall of the JNIMS, Porompat Imphal east this morning.
He further mentioned that JNIMS has started providing services at low cost and people suffering from major ailments including dialysis of kidney and key hole surgery could be treated and operated upon at a lower price in comparison to the other private medical institutes of the state.
He further stated that Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, or JNIMS as we call it, is in the process of becommg a full fledged Medical Institute. It was started by the Society for JNIMS with objective of producing more undergraduate and postgraduate doctors for the state of Manipur as well as of the neighbouring states.
The state Chief Minister also added that “ASIMANICON 2011 is being hosted by the surgeons of Manipur. I am confident that the scientific sessions will be very interesting and beneficial for the participants. Such conferences provide a great opportunity for exchange of ideas and sharing of experiences. I am sure this conference provides a great learning experience for all of you”.
“I have been a part of conferences of doctors in the past. However, this is a special one, as this conference is being held in the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences for the first time”, he added.
Further elaborating on JNIMS, he stated that “JNIMS has been upgraded from the earlier J.N. Hospital, which is gradually expanded to accommodate 700 beds from the existing 326 beds. We are constructing the permanent building of the Institute in the same campus! This will be in the form of four identical structures which are interconnected, with a number of lecture theatres, examination halls, recreation rooms etc. All this requires huge amount of funding and we are tapping various sources for this purpose”.
“On the academic front, JNIMS now admits 100 students annually, strictly according to the MCI regulations. The first batch of MBBS students will appear for the final MBBS examination in January, 2015. The second batch has already started with 100 students, out of which 15 are from all India quota. In the near future, we plan to start Post-graduate courses including super-speciality degrees. At the present stage, the Institute has 26 professors, 7 associate professors, 44 assistant professors and adequate number of junior doctors. The Institute is also in the process of filling up a number of posts in many departments, as per the MCI norms”.
The present generation of surgeons is well-exposed to new techniques of surgery. They learn and adopt advanced technologies in patient care services. I have learnt that the department of surgery in JNIMS is capable of providing quality treatment at a very affordable price. The latest techniques and laparoscopic procedures are being used in the department with ease. I would however like to highlight that surgeons should always remember their duty towards the society at large. It is a noble profession and a little human touch in their dealing of the patients can win them millions of good wishes, added the Chief Minister.
State health and family welfare minister Y Jayantakumar attended as guest of honour of the opening function of the conference and appealed the doctors to impart their duties with dignity and preserved their professional ethics while delivering their services to the people.
In the meantime, in connection with the opening function of the ASAMICON 2011, the Chief Minister O Ibobi also released a souvenior and later presented gifts to some of the reputed doctors of the state as sign of honouring their services in the field of health care in the state.
