Child trafficking on the rise as people are lured by easy money, Dr Ng Bijoy

IMPHAL, Oct 5: The All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) in collaboration with State Rural Development and Panchayati Raj department is organising a four day district level training programme to impart education on drug abuse, women and child trafficking and other related crimes at the State Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak starting today.

The inaugural function of the training programme was graced by Manipur Pollution Control Board chairman Dr Ng Bijoy as the chief guest, AMADA Mayai Loisang president M Padamani Leima as the president and State director of prosecution Ng Tezkumar as guest of honour.

Speaking at the function, Dr Bijoy said the number of drugs users and alcoholics have increased so have the cases of child trafficking because people seek easy money.

Lauding AMADA for organising the training programme by making the people aware of the negative impacts to the society by such practices, he said as law enforcers play a big role in the society they should take full responsibility and support the people to abstain from such practices.

In his keynote address, AMADA Mayai Loisang secretary Meghachandra Meetei said it is time for people of the State to unite and come together to achieve the goal of eradicating drugs, alcohol, child trafficking and many other evil practices in the society.

As there is an increase in the number of drugs users and alcoholism in the society, crimes such as rape, murder, theft etc too have increased considerably, he added.

Meghachandra further said that the objective of the programme was to make the women and children aware so that they can prevent themselves from such crimes prevailing in the State.

The training programme will continue till October 8 and several resource persons will speak during the course of the training programme.
