IMPHAL, November 14: Senior opposition MLA Okram Joy has today urged the state government to find out the “truth” of the Supra State Body from the ministry of home affairs at the earliest.

The MPP MLA was speaking to media persons on the issue at the state Assembly complex today.

There is no question of including the territories of the state in the formation of Supra State Body. However, there is likeliness of disintegrating the territorial integrity of the state in the near future, he opined.

The transfer of legal authority and decision-making power of the Naga populated areas of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to the Supra State Body will be a ploy to disintegrate the territorial integrity of the northeastern states, O Joy asserted.

He further maintained that the Congress party should be held responsible if the formation of “Supra State Body” turns to be factual.

The integration of Naga inhabited areas of Northeast comes following an agreement signed between the Congress party and Naga leaders on August 4, 1972, the senior opposition MLA noted.

Taking a dig on NSCN (IM), O Joy demanded the centre to look into the activities of the outfit which is currently under peace talks. The increasing violent activities of suspected NSCN (IM) cadres are clear violation of the peace talks with the central government, he stated.

Menahwile, MPP Youth Front has strongly reacted to the proposed formation of “Supra State Body” in the state.

A release of the front stated that the people of Manipur would never raise objections to any development in Nagaland. However, the proposed “Supra state body” is likely to hamper the territorial integrity of the state, it said.

The Youth Front further urged the state government to take up effective measures to oppose the formation of Supra State Body which is likely to compromise the territorial integrity of the state.
