Massive cordon operations continue ahead of President`s visit

IMPHAL, April 28: As a part of the security measures taken up before the arrival of the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee on April 29, police continue to conduct massive cordon and search operations at various locations of the state capital Imphal.

One such operation was conducted under the supervision of K Meghachandra Additional SP (operation) Imphal west today focussing mainly around the vicinity of the Manipur University where the President is scheduled to attend a convocation.

The areas covered by the operation conducted this morning are Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, Singjamei Thongam Leikai and Asem Leikai.

Residents of the areas including women were paraded along the road side for their minute verification and identification by the police team.

Altogether 34 persons including seven individuals on bail, were rounded up by the Singjamei Police Station for further verification.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Imphal west district police and 4 IRB personnel led by Krishnatombi, DSP Imphal west Commando conducted a similar search operation at Ghari area under Lamphel Police Station around 8 am this morning.

However there was no report of any arrest made during the search operation. As part of the operation the combined team also conducted frisking and checking of all the vehicles plying along the Airport road in front of Kwakeithel Police outpost.

In a separate incident, the Bishnupur district Police under the supervision of N Herojit SP Bishnupur District conducted search operation today early morning at Khodrak and Arong Nongmaikhong area.
