KANGPOKPI, May 7 : Following an alleged shoot out between Assam Rifles personnel and suspected cadres of the TPLA, the security personnel gave a hot chase to one of the fleeing cadres at Kangpokpi district headquarters yesterday.

The shoot out reportedly occured at about 3 pm today but there is no confirmed report of any casualty on either side.

After a hot chase, the fleeing TPLA cadre reportedly managed to give the slip to the security personnel, but in the process the Assam Rifles personnel turned their anger on the villagers of Keithelmanbi, particularly quarry labourers, who had to bear the brunt of the security personnel.

One labourer and a driver sustained severe injuries among many others in the assault by the AR personnel.

Womenfolk of Keithelmanbi after learning the incident confronted the security forces at Keithelmanbi Bridge where the AR official apologized with the swift intervention of Kangpokpi SP and brought about a compromise with the AR officials agreeing to meet the medical expenses of the victims.

Later, the two victims were brought to CHC Kangokpi where medical treatment was given.
They were identified as Chonkhomang Dimngel (40), s/o (L) Seilun Dimngel of Keithelmanbi Ward No.9 and quarry truck bearing Regd No MN03-T- 0034 driver identified as Suivi (45), s/o Chaarang of T Khullen.

Speaking to media persons at CHC Kangpokpi, one of the victims said that other labourers identified as Satlen, Ginminthang and Paolenlal of Keithelmanbi village were also beaten by the AR personnel apart from a few more others working below their quarry site and an aged man working in a paddy field.
